Jaipur - The Pink city

Jaipur, the pink city is noted for tourist attractions like Nahargarh, Hawamahal, Kanak Brindavan and many more. But the most note worthy attraction would be Jaigarh. Jaigarh is nothing but a fort built on a hill about 400 meters above normal ground level. The Kachawa kings of Jaipur built it to store their precious loot after wars. These treasures were later used up building Jaipur .Many believe that treasures are still there in Jaigarh. But the searches by authorities yielded no result..

Jaigarh has a gun foundry, and the world’s largest canon (named Jaivan) on wheels. With it’s 8m barrel and 20km trajectory this massive gun weighs 50 tons. History records that this canon was used only once, that too for testing purposes. The canon ball landed 38 km away and caused massive damage. It was planned that the cannoneer should jump into water immediately after firing, but did not get the time to do so. So he died immediately after firing..

With it’s three km walls Jaigrah is built on the same structure as Amber fort. The fort built on the Cheel ka Tola( Eagle’s hill) gives us eagles view of the Jaipur and adjoining areas. Situated eleven kilometers from Jaipur city,it’s reachable by motor . But tourists often love straight climb from amber fort to Jaigarh, or an elephant ride from amber to the hill. Jaigarh has many other attractions like Vijay Garh , Lakshimi palace etc. But Jaigarh meaning “Fort of victory” and it’s great canon will remain in the hearts of people who come to Jaipur .
